Reading from a place

My recent reads have mostly been authors from West Africa. This is mostly due to the fact that I have been based there because of work but also because of accessibility to the books.

I thought reading books from a particular region would almost repetitive but I have been pleasantly surprised at the diversity in the stories and genres. I am also loving the fact that the settings are familiar, the food and the sounds are those that I have personally experienced. Most importantly though is seeing ‘culture’ as portrayed in some of the books in real life.

I am grateful for this juncture in my life as I get to appreciate a writing culture and reading culture different to mine. It makes reading and enjoying the books an entirely sublime experience .

I am finishing up Stay with me by Ayobami Adebayo and will post a review soon.
